Sara Catherine Brown, (formerly Sara Hawthorne), has always had an intense love and talent in music. Brown was born in Orlando, Florida and raised in the small town of Americus, Georgia. She has been a vocalist from the time she realized she was able to make sounds; endlessly humming and cooing as a toddler wherever she went. Guitar playing "just sort of happened", she says and had been a favorite past-time of her older brothers. In time, after watching her siblings play for hours on end, she picked the knack up herself. One story from her youth describes how she would sneak her older brothers’ guitars, at a chance to "figure out what the big deal was all about." Brown is quick to laugh and admit she'd "rather sing chords than strum them." -A frequent family joke tells of when her brothers would confiscate her karaoke machine to terrorize her. The chronically deep infatuation Brown has had with singing is no secret to her fans and loved ones. She refers to it occasionally as a habit and in a recent interview with her hometown newspaper, she again confessed,“I am really a passionate singer at heart”.
She joined chorus in middle school, and it was at that time she also began writing her own music. Her instructor, Greg Aplin, who taught Brown formerly for 3 years, currently still teaches in Sumter County. He was her "greatest influence and supporter" and she largely credits her musical styling and validity to his guidance and encouragement. She tells of how Aplin always motivated, believed in, and pushed her harder than anyone else. “Music has always been an outlet for me, and the thought of potentially being an outlet for someone else is quite possibly the best adrenaline in existence.”-Americus Times Recorder
In 2009, Sara graduated from Americus High School. She then went on to college, while still trying to find time for her music. While in college, she received her paramedic license. She is currently working for Tift County Fire Rescue. When she isn’t saving lives, she is working from home preparing for her next show, building her musician profiles, and enjoying time with her family.
Previously, she joined “Battle of the Bands” with a solo acoustic artist, as “The Isabellas”. She has performed at Lake Blackshear Resort, venues in Cordele, Albany, and Tifton, weddings, and Chehaw Park. She currently performs solo acoustic with added effects that keep her crowds guessing. It's hard to tell just what she'll do or say next. Her covers include a wide range of music from southern classical rock, acoustic indie-folk, soul, and country balanced with a modern mix and hits from alternative rock as well. Many of her music influences include: Martina McBride, Faith Hill and other female country artists from the 90's, Alanis Morrissette, Stevie Nicks, Miranda Lambert, Janis Joplin, The Cranberries, Paramore, Tracy Chapman, Bill Withers, Amy Winehouse, and Melissa Etheridge to name a few.
“Fly high above gravity, soaring through the galaxies, where nothing is out of reach” is original song lyrics Brown tries to always remind herself of. Through the ups and downs of her music journey, she knows that nothing can stop her from doing what she truly loves. “I want to perform and inspire people. Give them goosebumps, just as my favorite musicians still give me”, Brown says.
Sara has performed at local fairs, festivals, and carnivals, including Wild Adventures. Brown has upcoming shows scheduled across Georgia as she embarks on her first promoted tour, "Emerge." stay tuned for her first EP release Summer 2017.
